Robert Stark lives and works in Munich, Germany and was an artist in residence at Wharepuke for the month of August 2023.
In his exhibition HORIZONTAL IRREGULARITIES Robert presented the work made during his residency.
The present, function and history of architecture, its role in various social, economical and political systems, its intersections, differences, similarities and cross references and its formal and structural manifestations constitute the basis of my work. The pieces are also studies of the environment in which I live, as well as structures, fragments and the special form of everyday and design objects.
By means of a complex montage-like process, the findings of such explorations are translated into architectural sculptures, room installations, drawings and photography.
Structural similarities and formal reductions, up to near total abstraction, constitute their essence.
